Hello one and all (likely actually just one)!
Welcome to Persistence of Vision, my pretentiously named blog where I can talk endlessly about movies without having my friends threaten to rip out my vocal cords.
As this is an introductory post, I'll explain the name. In an attempt to sound hip and blog-worthy, I attempted to come up with a name that was clever and film-referential, and to limit my search time to under ten minutes.
I decided against including the name "Minerva" or "Athena" in the title, even though she is the Roman/Greek goddess of the Arts, just because I knew that I would immediately regret it, and would never be able to endure the merciless taunting of my friends.
A quick history of film lesson, courtesy of the fine folks at Wikipedia, led me to one of the earliest incarnations of film, circa the 1860s: machines that shuffled through still images at a speed fast enough to make it seem as if the pictures were one continuous motion.
The name of this phenomenon? You guessed, Persistence of Vision.
Hopefully my explanation makes the title slightly less obnoxious and off-putting to any of you who are hesitating to stick it out. If you're still feeling a bit reluctant, well, you're probably an asshole, but maybe you just need a teaser for next time. This typically enjoyable Defamer post talks about Seth Rogen having to talk about his Green Hornet-induced weight loss at every stop of his Observe and Report press tour, which should prime you for my review of Observe and Report and a bitter rant about the obsession with Hollywood's weight.
Vale!
Amanda

I, for one, cannot wait for your review of Paul Blart... err, Travis Bickel: Mall Cop.
